The idea of the world as we know it coming to an end has been around for thousands of years. The Bible, Nostradamus, past and present civilizations, and Hollywood directors have all had their own versions of how the world will end. Most versions have the world ending in horrific disasters like giant tsunamis, worldwide pandemic, and nuclear warfare. Did you already survive the world ending though? Well read on to find out 7 dates that the world was supposed to end on, but didn’t (including a few dates for the future).
1.) January 1, 1000 A.D.
The months leading up to the new millennium were tumultuous. Many pilgrims, knights, and others made a trip to Jerusalem, thinking that the Apocalypse and Armageddon was upon them. During their trip there, many died of disease and hunger. Some pilgrims even sold all their belongings in the hope that it would help them become one of the chosen few to ascend. Needless to say, the world was relatively safe when the calendar rolled over and many pilgrims were left homeless.
2.) Many dates in 1843 and 1844
There was this preacher named William Miller. He studied the Bible extensively and after doing some calculations, he became convinced that the world was going to end sometime in 1843. He double checked his answers for 4 years and then in 1822 went public in a document with his declaration. He said the world would end between March 21, 1843 and March 21, 1844. When nothing happened, he pushed the date back to April 18, 1844. Another man within this movement, now known as Millerism, predicted the final doomsday date of October 22, 1844. When nothing happened (again), it became known as “The Great Disappointment.” The Millerism movement weakened after that and the thousands of followers were left confused and in disbelief.
3.) March 10, 1982
What’s so special about March 10, 1982? Well on that day, the planets were all on the same side of the sun. While the planets were not exactly in a straight line, many people saw this event as a sign of the end times. The “Jupiter Effect” was supposed to wreak havoc over tidal forces, cause earthquakes and hurricanes, and almost every other natural disaster you can imagine. Well, we’re still here.
4.) January 1, 2000
The infamous Y2K situation. Futurists had visions of toasters attacking their owners with weaponized toast and lawn mowers chasing after gardeners. Governments around the world feared that computers and electronic systems would read the digits “00″ as 1900, instead of 2000. There is no doubt that at least a few of the people who showed up in Times Square in New York that night were expecting to go out in a blaze of glory. Much to their dismay, the Y2K situation passed relatively harmlessly.
5.) June 6, 2006
If you write that date in short form, it comes out 6/6/06. As you may know, the number ’666′ is referred to as the sign of the devil. Religious sects were informing everyone they could that the Antichrist was returning to Earth and that people should prepare themselves. Either the Antichrist never came, or he got stuck in traffic because Earth still stands.
6.) December 21/23, 2012
This is quite possibly the most famous date for the end of the world. The date was “predicted” by the Mayans as the last date on their Long Count calendar. Other events are schedule to occur in 2012, causing more hype. One event includes the sun reaching a solar maximum (it might happen in early 2013). When it does that, the magnetic poles of the Earth supposedly might reverse, causing unimaginable damage. There is also a theory that a giant solar flare will incinerate the planet and if that wasn’t enough, supervolcanoes will erupt and completely block out the sun for whatever life is left on the Earth.
7.) The year 3797
Nostradamus is seen as a “prophet” by many. His books of quatrains that are supposedly about future events are well known and documented. However, Nostradamus’s prophecies stop abruptly at the year 3797. A sign of the end of the world? We will see. If it happens, please let me know so this article can be updated.

My baby cousin’s birthday is December 21. :0

No, the WORLD wont end, but HUMANITY will. And it will not be at any particular time or date, but just think about it, the predicted solar storms will most likely cause power to go out in most of the world. Think about ONE DAY WITHOUT ELECTRICITY in a home, we humans go crazy! Food in our refrigerators and medication begin to spoil. But keep in mind its not just our house without electricity, it will be entire countries. NO ELECTRICITY = NO FOOD, NO WATER, NO MEDICATION, NO COMMUNICATION, NO TRANSPORTATION! Just think about it! Like I said, the World its self wont end, it will keep spinning, but humans cannot last long without electricity.. at least not ALL 7,000,000,000 of us!!

I think it’s possible. NASA has released a few videos about a planet or object that they “had” discovered in our solar system, but just try and find those videos on the net now. They’ve been scoured. Russian sites has some interesting videos and information sites concerning 2012 and cosmic anomalies (as well as historical accounts and evidence of previous cataclysms every 3,600 years…which we are over due now for) so hit Google translate if you don’t understand Russian language, a few glitches but good reading. Either way, you may as well live like a soldier in these days in time any which way it goes. In the mind frame of happy to be alive today, but ready to fight to survive tomorrow if the challenge comes.
The people who are clearly afraid and resistant to this thought must have a lot of investment in the reality we live, which is a foul existence for the majority of people and animals (due to humans). Watch a documentary on Bangladeshi children of prostitutes to expand your mind past your own comfort zone and see how much of the world sees reality. We have made Earth an ugly place full of darkness.
I hope if great change or cataclysm comes, the survivors will create a better world from the ashes of what was, for the sake of our future legacy. I know *if* I survive it, I will help as many as I can. Live for today, but have your mind prepared for whatever comes…

Trained weathermen, who go to school for their “craft” and learn to use sophisticated machinery for predicting weather, still get it wrong. At times the hick with the achy bunion gets it wrong, what makes anybody think the Mayans have it right? they didn’t have the mental acuity to invent the abacus! No past civilized culture followed the [callobrated] time we follow now, which was, inpart, established by Benjamin Franklin and others, to make time (days, moths, years, daylight savings time, leap year, etc.) what it is today. we celebrate birthdays, accordingly but the same can’t be said about the planet, from the time it coelesced to the present because there wouldn’t be room at the header for a proper date…leaving ,quite literally, room for a world of errors. Proving that every single (infinitesmal) generation had it, has it, and will have it wrong, every time, all of the time. We can’t help it, it’s the human condition; at best, fallible.

All prophecies of 2012 point to extraterrestrial matter coming for us and colliding with earth or solar flares wiping us out. I’ll admit I worried a little so I went to NASA.gov and read what they had to say (after all who would know better about what’s going on up there than them) and here’s some facts for you. A few months ago a giant asteroid passed right between us and the moon and just kept going thanks to the sun pulling it. Any other warriors either get flung away by jupitor or becomes another one of its moons. Also, no matter how bad and big a solar storm is, it is impossible for the flares to reach us. It may take out a couple of our satellites but companies already have back up satellites that are ready to be launched at any time. As for the poles shifting, yes its happening and yes something will result from it. Your compass will start pointing the wrong way. 12/21/12 is not the end of humanity. Just like our calendar ends on Dec. 31 and restarted on Jan. 1 the Mahanadi calendar ends on 12/21/12 and picks right back up on 12/22/12. This day is nothing but a cool looking date.

Well said! Let’s be honest. There is no supreme being who governs our fate. There is no supreme being full stop. If everyone on this rock realised this and understood we are tiny creatures residing on a speck of dust in the middle of the universe, maybe we would all look after our planet. We live, we die, the end!

Everyone, please do not worry about the world ending in 2012. You must know that NO ONE can predict the end of the world, not even the Saviour Jesus Christ knew, only God knows.
Proof is from the Holy Bible-King James Version;
St. Mark Ch:13 Verse 32 are in Jesus words: “But of that day and that hour, knoweth no man, no, not even the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son (Jesus) but only the Father.(God)”
[Reply]
It is human egotism that leads people to predict the end of the world. At the root of their predictions is the fact that they cannot fathom that when they die, the world will indeed go on without them. In the 4.5 billion years it has existed, the end of the Earth has still not happened, so how about we wait until we have some proper evidence?

Simple question – In the past, how many times have people been right about the world ending? Oh, that’s right — none.
This article proves one thing; there have been more than the seven notable instances highlighted here; there have been literally thousands of times people have predicted the end of the world. They will always be wrong.
You can’t help how you were brought up, but you can start reading and educating yourselves outside of what you have been taught since childhood.

People like you are as dumb as sh!t. I am christian like many others that are reading this article. The thought that a book can predict the end, or the end of predictions marking the end of the world is total bullsh!t. When people are able to read the same exact book and come up with thousands of different possibilities it means there is no prediction in there, so don’t try to make it seem that way. Also, when someone stops a prediction, maybe they died, got bored, sidetracked or something. It would be impossible to predict an infinite number of years of events so don’t make it seem like the world is going to end when someone runs out of time or paper to make predictions.
The human race really is pretty stupid…honestly.

Yes,it’s going to happen three civilization are not going to be wrong. One yes, two maybe but all three noway. Remember extinction happens every 62 million year and we know it comes from up there in space. Well what’s happening now in space is a time line coming together now. After next year each go there separate way not to come together again for 62 million years. Live Life have fun. Your not going to be able to anything anyway.

This 2012 thing is a load of crap. The Bible even denies it an all prophecied events of the world ending. Revelation Ch. 3 V. 3 says, “So remember what you have received and heard; and keep it, and repent. Therefore if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.” This is saying that no one on Earth or Heaven except the Lord knows the day, hour, minute, or second of Christ’s Second Coming. This also means that any prophecied event is wrong for Christ will come when we least expect it. We expect it so much of this date. This is why He’s not coming on this date. However, things can possibly get drastic, so let’s look at them.
The Earth has also only changed its magnetic poled 19 times in its 4.6 billion years. The last it has been done was 780,000 years ago. 4.6 billion minus 780,000 is 4,599,220,000. That divided by ninteen equals 242,064,210.526. That minus 780,000 representing the years without a magnetic reversal is 241,284,210.526. If my math has been done correctly we have 241,284,210.526 years left until the next geomagnetic reversal, so we are completely safe from that.
I don’t even know why they made a movie on all of this because it’s just going to freak people out even more. They even have a geomagnetic reversal in the movie. HA! Also in the movie tidal waves rush around the world and send it underwater; the entire thing. These waters also recede in a matter of minutes thus leaving whole continents in a matter of minutes! This is hollywood people. If this were to happen it would take SO LONG for the waters to recede and get to places inside of continents.
Some say that 2012 is going to be a choice making time for mankind. This choice will be whether oor not to follow an array of gods that will all of a sudden pop up. Ok. 1. I’m a Christian. Of course I’m not going to accept these new gods that have nothing to do with Christianity. 2. The Sumerians, Babylonians, and Egyptians proposed this idea in ancient times. In case you don’t know those people worshipped and followed so many gods. Of course, to them more are popping up every day and of course to them they are going to have to make decisions. However, we Christians have our hearts settled on our one God.
Many people also believe that this “Nibiru” asteriod is going to wreak havoc on us and that it’s reaching us at a tremendous speed at this very instant. Well, folks, this “Niburi” thing repeats a death dance that supposedly is supposed to terrorize ALL planets in our solar system. If it would have done some damage, it would done so already for the Earth is 4.6 billion years old. It just doesn’t work.
Some people believe that we will all be sucked into our monster black hole in the middle of the Milky Way because the sun and Earth are aligned with it. So what? everything else in the solar system and galaxy is aligned with it every once in a while. The Earth and sun are actually like this twice a year: December 18th and June 18th. Guess what? We’re still here.
However, some things in 2012 may happen. People also beieve that certain things will be rigged up as listed below. However, these things happen every year or have happened in some sort of way before:
1. Enormous Mass Fires: These things happen in California all the time.
2. 1,000-year-floods: Yeah,uh, the Tribulation lasts seven years. This is 1,000. However, I put this in here to say that floods do happen all the time. Nashville and New Orleans are two very good examples of floods. They don’t happen all the time here but it shows that it can happen anywhere under the right conditions.
3. 1/2 mile wide tornadoes: these things happen every year. Even though they are only 2% of all tornadoes, these things do happen already. Some will even say, “They can carry all sorts of things.” Geez, we already know this; they fling cars across cities sometimes.
4. Category 8 hurricanes: Ok. These things only go to 5. Let’s see: Katrina, Andrew, etc.
5. 9.5 Earthquakes: Chile, Haiti, etc.
6. Asteroid: Sad to say but, this is how the dinosaurs ended. Some asteroids do come to Earth as some people may recall with the big dent on the face of the Earth in Arizona. However, this kind of goes with the “Niburu” asteroid/ miniature planet. If something like this were coming though we would know about it by know.
7. Mile High Tsunamis: Japan, China, etc.
8. Nuclear War: We’ve had wars, but not Nuclear. We’ve had the Atomic Bomb though. I mean, I just hope someone doesn’t stupidly fire a nuclear weapon at anybody in 2012 or anytime soon…
9. Killer Pandemics: AIDS and HIV, African Sleeping Sickniss, etc.
10. Sterality of Livestock and Humans: Uh… gee I hope not. It just makes me wonder: how? However, with the entire planet going like this, it would have to go under some sort of disease or something close to it. Remember, it’s happening to everybody here, it’s not one group of humans doind it to another.
11. Mass Insanity: I know many people like this.
12. This list is endless; but these are the basics.
Hopefully now you see that 2012 is just another year that’s going to be a false prophecy in the “end of the world.” Still, repent and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior, believe that He died on the cross for your sins, believe that He rose from the ddead on the Third Day and rose into Heaven, bleieve that He is the Son of God, the Son of Man, and the Messiah.
Good luck to you all.

The Bible predicts that this world (age) is we know surely it will end. There is not a ancient civilization that has not ended; ours are the last one standing for some 2000 years. I’m sure those that were in Noah time, people who didn’t believe the world was ending, right up until the rains came down and the heaven open up and springs broke lose from the underground wells. We know from the terrible events we see going on all around us today in the world, that something strange is happening. Even farms animals are atone to the cosmic whether force around them. We human beings sense something is going on around us too, but this time that we just can’t explain it. Unlike or predecessors, we humans of today are the most advanced and knowledgeable people of all times. We are not superstitious people or prone to spooks in the dark. Nevertheless, our rational minds and intuition tells us that something strange is happening in the universe. We see that over night or in an instant that catastrophic events can devastate an entire country leaving it in turmoil. So whether you believe the naysayers that have been crying wolf for millenniums, “the sky is falling, one thing is for sure this time, they are probably right. We just can’t predict the exact time and hour. So what should we do? If you are one of God’s chosen vessels, than rejoice because your Savior, Christ Jesus , like a husband coming to redeem his bride, the Church, he is taking it back to its heavenly home. However, all those who have not repented and asked God’s forgiveness for their sins and accepted his son Christ Jesus, than weep and howl, because the Day of Judgment is near. But the good news is the last train is just preparing to leave the station; you might just have enough time to catch it, just before it leaves for heaven. Hurry! You still have time. There are very few tickets (seats) left before they are all sold out. I hope to see you there.

I would say that December 21st, 2012 is not the exact date the world would not end but more likely 2013 as it says because if the sun gets much hotter or there are solar flares it could possibly cause high levels of lethal radiation to beam towards earth and destroy life as we know it.

To be fair on all of these comments the world is not gonna end on the 21st of December 2012 because 6/6/06 never happened neither did Y2K so what makes people think its all gonna end in 2012 there’s no real proof apart from the Mayans do you no think if it was gonna happen we would have had a sign by now ? tbh i don’t think anything will happen and well be fine so stop worrying about this and get on with your life
