Telephone numbers have been around since before the turn of the 19th century. With the addition of cell phones, there are now billion of numbers and combinations worldwide. Among those billions of numbers though, 6 of them have managed to become famous.
1.) 9-1-1 (Emergency Services)
The number 9-1-1 is known by almost everyone in North America. It is the number to call in case of emergencies. While prank calling 9-1-1 can cause a lot of trouble for the caller(s), an accidental call won’t cause punishment once the operator knows it was a mistake.
2.) 777-9311 (The Time)
This number was a single by the band The Time, which was a Prince associate. The number actually belonged to Dez Dickerson, a member of Prince’s band, The Revolution. He had to change it once the song became popular.
3.) 281-330-8004 (Mike Jones)
In rapper Mike Jones’s song “Back Then” (and other songs), Jones gave out this number telling fans to call him. The number is set up as a voicemail for fans to leave a message for the rapper and he will call them back.
4.) 1-900-MIX-ALOT (Sir Mix-a-Lot)
In Sir Mix-a-Lot’s popular song “Baby Got Back,” he tells ladies to call that number to “kick their nasty thoughts.”
5.) 678-999-8212 (Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em)
The number was used in the song “Kiss Me Thru the Phone.” Similar to Jones, if you call that number, you will get a voicemail message. After you call the number, you will receive updates about the singer’s upcoming events and albums.
6.) 867-5309 (Tommy Tutone)
Possibly the most famous number of all, the song “867-5309/Jenny,” caused millions of people to dial the number and ask for Jenny. Imagine the grief for all the owners of this number. Almost all of the numbers are no longer in service due to the massive amount of calls received. In fact, the number has gained such prominence that it has been listed on eBay in various area codes.
